My Muscles Hurt and I Love It

One of those perfect, but rare, Indiana days
One of those perfect, but rare, Indiana days

Yesterday was an incredibly active day for me.  Saturdays usually are, just because I am always trying to catch up on the chores and errands that I don’t normally do during the week.

That being said, yesterday I was very active and much more than usual.  K and I woke up bright and early, ate a light breakfast and drank coffee and then headed out the door for a morning run.  Can you believe it?!  I sure can’t.  It was actually so early that it was kind of cold outside, so I had to wear a jacket.  I have never in my life, as lame as it sounds, went for a morning run. I hate running, but something has changed in me.  I have started to love exercise.

Friday night and Saturday afternoon I astounded myself again and went to the gym.  I went to the university fitness center with K and paid the one day fee each time.  Now, i can’t do that every time because it would get really expensive and they charge an arm and a leg for semester passes, but it’s nice to do that every once in awhile to get an extra difficult workout.  I also really can’t stand to go to the gym.  People are smelly and sweaty and germy.  I’m always afraid that I might see someone get “sick” there too.  Out of shape people doing difficult exercise is a recipe for illness.  I brought my hand sanitizer and kept spraying the sanitizing spray on the equipment I used and somehow I made it through two hours total in there.  Now I feel great.  Well, psychologically feeling because I worked my body really hard.  Physically speaking, I can barely walk 😉  I like that kind of feeling though because I know I actually worked my muscles.

I have never liked to work out.  Never, not once.  i always felt forced to go to the gym or go for an evening run.  Now, I have the right motivation, which may sound silly to some, but the tattoo has got me motivated.  The end goal for me is so important that getting there is just as exciting now.  For the first time in my life, I actually enjoy getting in shape 🙂  My asthma issues usually make me hate it.

I took the recycling to the recycling center and then came home and cleaned the house.  I gave Chester a bath, which is always hard to do because I have to trick him into the bathroom.  I can’t give him any signs that it’s bath day.  I just hide the measuring cup I use to pour the water  on him under my shirt, which is so obvious, but he doesn’t get it.  Then I have to just make sure he doesn’t suspect anything an then bring him in the bathroom, at which time  I shut the door and give him a bath, which is actually the easy part 😉  After that, I ate lunch.

In the afternoon, K and I went to the gym as mentioned above.  We then came home and watched World War Z, which was pretty awesome although not my favorite zombie movie because the zombies were way too fast.  We were going around making zombie biting faces and sounds all day 😉  We then took a short nap, woke up and watched Star Trek: Into the Darkness, another great movie, while cooking dinner.  Well, we started watching it, until the power went out!  It was a beautiful, no gorgeous day, not a cloud in sight and the power randomly went out.  Someone had hit an electric pole.  I looked online at the energy company website and saw that 2700+ people were without power.  I called them and they said the power wasn’t going to be on for 3 more hours.  So, K and I went outside, had dinner at a local Mexican restaurant, which was awesome as usual, and then went to the supermarket and I bought shampoo and he bought beer 🙂

When we came home, the power was back on an hour earlier than we expected 🙂

It was a pretty great day.  I’m kind of proud of myself 🙂

Thanks for reading!

  1. Great job Megan!! I agree, when there is a goal, it makes working out SO much easier!

I didn’t like the movie WW Z, the ending was just to predictable, loved the book though. But the Star Trek movie was all kinds of fun! I would like to compliment your taste in movies!

    1. It definitely does 🙂 I wish I had a better bike to ride and then I would do that too! THe ending was pretty predictable, but then again, I guess the ending of every movie and usually correctly 😉 Kind of a gift I guess!

  2. I have to share a funny. The other week my hubs and I were in bed and my husnad was reading blogs and started laughing. He then said that he was reading about this cat named Chester. “Oh you found Megan! I adore here She and I ar blog friends!” Anyway, he is laughing me right now because I had no clue World War Z was a zombie movie. Guess I have not watched the previews close enough. 🙂

    1. Haha! THat’s awesome 😉 We are great blog friends! Chester is definitely funny and he always makes me laugh. He’s running around the living room now like he’s training for Ninja Warrior. WWZ is definitely a zombie movie and far different from the typical zombie movies, but still great 🙂 You should watch it!

  3. World war Z Mmm well you be able to outrun them soon enough with those workouts. Bying shampoo and beer? how would you drink the first one.
    hehe sorry joke mood
And you can be proud of yourself, look at what you done in one day you mentioned on your 19 things list couple of days ago.
You go girl, go on shake it shake it.

    1. 😉 The shampoo is organic, so maybe. That was a gross thought! I did do a lot in one day and the gym was a big one for me! Thank goodness there weren’t that many people there 😉

  4. I am so proud of you for really sticking to exercising. It sounds like your weekend was so busy you will want to go to work just to rest! You are causing me to think about adding regular exercise to my day. I just need a goal to work toward. Have a great week. 🙂

    1. I like those kinds of weekends! When work seems like rest I mean. It definitely did today and that makes it a lot more enjoyable actually. Hope your week is great too!

  5. That’s all great to hear! So glad that you are starting to like working out. Look out -It gets addicting. It’s a good addiction though. I just added a 30 minute yoga routine to my every day workout. That takes me up to about a 1.5 hour workout now, but the stretching is wonderful with the yoga. Keep it up. Getting fit and conquering germs! Great job!

    1. I think I’m already addicted 😉 I feel bad when I don’t! I guess that’s a good thing. Tonight was kind of busy, so I only got a 30 minute workout in, but that’s better than my usual nothing 🙂

  6. I love these Indiana days too! But here came the rain…. Quite refreshing really! 😉 I’m loving to work out lately too… But with 3 little ones, work, household duties, etc. some days get by without it… Love it when I do though! These past few days were perfect for outside ex! Love this Indiana weather!!! Good night!

    1. I can imagine that life is hectic at times for you, but awesome that you can find time for yourself 🙂 I hope this fall isn’t as rainy as usual, but I’m sure it will be.

  7. Sounds great! Here’s a funny thought. You can use beer to wash your hair, but you can’t drink shampoo. Okay, that’s weird, but I was just amused by your purchases; beer and shampoo.

  8. Great job on the morning run. 🙂 I have yet to attempt the morning run. I know what you mean about starting to love exercise, I used to hate it as well, but now I am a fan.

  9. Now this is something…..both you AND RETURN OF THE MODERN PHILOSOPHER… talk about running on the same day. The back of my legs hurt after a little afternoon walk and some gardening yesterday. So glad that the power’s back on!!! 🙂

    1. Exercise usually makes me sore rather quickly, but now that I’m getting used to it, not so much. I guess that’s a good sign 🙂 Thanks for the reblog Jonathan. I really appreciate it 🙂
