Christmastime Crochet

20131202_193721I can’t believe Christmas is just around the corner.  I have been working my hands off crocheting gifts for everyone 🙂  So far, I’ve finished two scarves and a potholder.  The scarf above is for my brother’s girlfriend.  It’s the first I’ve made using a double-crochet stitch.  I love it because it’s so light and soft and very feminine.  I think she’ll like it.  It’s the one in the picture above.  Crochet is certainly something I enjoy probably because it’s so easy, rewarding, and I’m really good at it 🙂  Don’t tell Chester, but I’m going to make him a toy and a kitty-scarf 😀  I still need to make a video on how to crochet. I think that would be fun 🙂

This is a big month for me, anxiety-wise.  Our employee Christmas party is coming up and I have to pick out a gift for the White Elephant gift exchange.  If you don’t know what this is, it’s when you put all the gifts together and go around and choose them.  Then someone can steal the one you pick.  I hate these kind of games, but I go along with it.  I especially hate it when no one steals the gift I got.  In this case, stealing is a good thing.  No one stole mine last year and the person seem unhappy with it.  I thought it was a cool gift. I got an Italian bialetti coffee maker and a bag of espresso coffee.  I thought it was neat, but I guess not so much 😦  I’m just going to get wine and some accessories this year.  Seems like that’s what everyone wants.

Then K is leaving for Korea.  He will leave for almost a month, which is not the longest he’s been away, but it’s certainly a long time.  I miss him when he goes and it’s stressful taking care of everything myself.  I do like the time we have apart because as that old saying goes, distance and time makes the heart grow fonder.

At least I’ll have Chester to look after and to look after me 🙂

I hope everyone had a nice day and a nice weekend!

Thanks for reading.

  1. I always feel stressed, but have no reason to be. I always want to make home made things to give out, but it seems like (no offense to anyone) everyone wants electronics, or store items…and not so much anything “hand made”. But I still attempt to do it every year, and usually fail at getting everything done…..*sigh……by the way…..lol…..when I first got here I went straight for the words….didnt see that you had “SNOW” falling on your screen….and seriously though my eyes were messed up, or I was Possibly feeling faint…(seeing stars?) SOOO glad it was just snow! 😉

    1. I’m the same way friend. Sometimes I’ll be doing nothing anxiety causing at all and I will feel very nervous and worried for no reason. This time of year is the worst for it. I think a lot of people I know, and I live in a city where we have a lot of artisans and craftsmen, really enjoy handmade items. I know I do 🙂 I’m glad to see how Etsy has kind of made this come back.

  2. Your gift was a great idea! I don’t know what is wrong with the people you work with. The scarf is gorgeous! You are very talented! That would be an idea for next year, a gender non-specific item that you make. I like to roast coffee with my roaster with cinnamon sticks. They get fresh roasted coffee with a twist. Gifts should be simple in this day and age, so I believe.

  3. Looks like your scarf has turned out really well. I haven’t attempted to crotchet in years! Maybe it will relax me, but then since adding blogging to my “free-time” I have no more “free-time” to spare! I know they will enjoy their gifts.

  4. Megan, that scarf is beautiful! I tried crocheting once many years ago when I was in high school. I made a scarf, and my stitches were so huge. I think it was about 12 feet long. I haven’t attempted the art since. I would be very interested in watching a video on how to crochet. Maybe I’ll try it again now that I’m retired.

    1. thank you so much! I’m really proud of it. I think it’s the best thing I’ve made yet. I think you should try it again and yes, I would actually love to make a video! i think that would be fun 🙂

      1. My brother also told me it is easy. He used to do it and was quite good at it. I may end up getting into it, but then again, I should just take back up sewing. hahah

  5. Love to Crochet too, that’s a lovely scarf you’ve made above! I am more into afghans and the like, though I’ve managed a few potholders for the house and a couple of hats as well…it’s comforting and easy.

  6. The scarf is beautiful. Be careful, soon your readers will want you to crochet for us! I wish I had been at your Christmas party. I use my Bialetti coffee maker daily. Hope today is a good day.

  7. Ok, here’s a trick that works all the time for me. When open your present, say “Cool! Ok, no one steal this!” Then the buyer is happy you like it, and some one may be more likely to steal!

    Great crocheting lady!

    1. 😀 I sure hope she likes it. She’s really kind, so even if she doesn’t she’d never make it known. Chester certainly will appreciate it, or destroy it 🙂 probably the latter…

      1. Haha Loca would do the same if I bought her a scarf, I’m to swollen to crochet I prefer making old wooden models when my hands are feeling good enough. It’s really fun and difficult once you learn that the entire outer later must be paper mached(spelling lol?) and then painted delicately!

  8. Wow, that game does sound a bit much! 😦 i’m surprised they let such a game in something like the workplace really! What happened to the simplicity of secret santa? it is always hard trying to find gifts for work-related games and christmas time.
i used to crochet once, very basic, my grandma taught me. It must be such a great joy to be able to create your own gifts!!!! i would really love to macrame and am looking into it 🙂

  9. ooh games are so cool. make Chester two scarves. one for you to keep with you just in case.
no thinking it will be hard, you should be thinking I can do this yes I can crochet while he is away
    keep smiling.

  10. Great! I am crocheting all through the months of November and December too. I am working on Queen sized blankets/coverlets for all of my kids. They are all grown with children of their own. I hope they love them as much as I love making them for them. Good luck with your holiday party woes..I’m not a big party goer myself. Happy Holidays 🙂

    1. haha! I’m sure yours looks great 🙂 Thank you though. I just watch a lot of Youtube videos and I bought a book from barnes & noble called “The Crochet Stitch Bible.” It’s really useful 🙂

  11. Just trying to figure out what kind of OCD you have…… My wife is a severe germaphobe, currently taking luvox 300mg daily. Not a lot of progress but at least I can sit next to her after I shower…. .. Of course. Seeing new shrink in the morning, hopefully we can get something better for her. It kills me to see her so scared.. ..
