The Cat Nest

I’ve been very busy the past couple of days working on crocheting this cat nest for Chester.  It took so long and took up so much yarn and it didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted.  I shoved Chester in it last night and lured him in it with food in hopes that he’d want to go in it, but he casually walked right back out after all of my attempts.  Well, when I came home today and relaxed on the couch, I looked over and saw my cute baby nestled inside his nest 🙂

He’s just so darn cute.

Crochet has been a therapy for me, in a way.  Because I have OCD, I find it very difficult to sit still and just relax and watch TV.  The evenings are usually never relaxing for me because I’ll sit down to “relax” and then get up as soon as I see something out of place or if something crosses my mind that I feel needs to be done.  Once I put one thing in order, I instantly see another thing that’s out of place and have to fix it too.  This goes on and on and on until I’ve basically cleaned the entire house.  This happens almost every night.  It is exhausting, but I can’t relax or even sleep if the house is a “disaster” or at least in my mind.

Now, in the evenings, I can crochet and make beautiful things while actually sitting down and relaxing and unwinding with K and Chester.  My hands and mind are occupied on the task at hand rather than bouncing all over the house trying to make order of things.  This little cat nest was probably the biggest project I took on and it took me about 4 days to complete.  Needless to say, I need some new projects to work on.

I am thinking about adding crochet men’s ties to my store.  I just have to figure out how I will do it, but I think it would add some nice variety.  I love crochet ties and really want to learn how to make them.  I’m sure K would also appreciate them 🙂  Let me know what you think or just give me ideas for new projects to add to my store by using the contact form below.

PS.  If you haven’t checked out my store yet, do so.  Here’s the link: PeonyCrochet.  I’ve added some cute new items with more to come. Remember to use the coupon code PEONY2014 for 15% off your order!

  1. I have been really looking forward to this picture, because I had no idea what a cat nest would look like! Now I’ve seen it, it’s sort of like “well, duh, what else could it possibly be?!” I’m so glad crochet has proved so therapeutic for you. XX DB

  2. i love the cat nest! the color is fantastic. will you be selling these on etsy? i have another question, regarding you having ocd… does it bother you that i rarely use capitals in my writing? i have a reason why i choose to do it, but if it drives you spinny i would consider blogging and commenting with proper sentence structure.

    1. Thank you 🙂 It was fun to make even though it took a ton of yarn and time. I probably won’t be selling it on Etsy, but I would consider custom orders for one. Honestly, the fact that you don’t use capitalization didn’t even cross my mind until you pointed it out to me, but now I can’t stop seeing it. It doesn’t really bother me though 🙂 Very kind of you to ask.

      1. too funny about the lack of capitals. well, maybe for next winter i’ll try to order a nest… with 3 cats, it’ll be fun to watch who wins it. have a terrific day megan.

  3. Chester looks very happy in his little nest. He couldn’t show a lot of enthusiasm when you tried to show it to him..that would be uncatlike! 🙂 Nice job

    1. He did like it. I thought he probably went in it while I was gone at work because it looked moved, but I wasn’t sure. Seeing him in it by himself confirmed my thoughts 🙂 He’s hilarious.

  4. I think the benefit of one cat. My cats are super territorial. I can’t buy anything like that without them fighting. Even if I got two a fight would break out over who got which one. It is like having children.

    1. That’s what I imagined, about having two cats. I worry about the fighting and also about disturbing Chester’s homeostasis. He has feline herpes, so anytime he gets stressed he gets sick. I think I better just stick to one cat for his sake 🙂

  5. Ha ha I am Smiling at the cat cave. so nice.
It is good to relax even for Super Megan. well done in finding you ways
keep smiling and enjoy your relaxing time. Pretty sure k is happy with that to 😀

  6. You know cats, they can’t admit they like something when it’s obvious that you’ve been working extra hard on something. They have to wait until you aren’t looking to enjoy it. *chuckles*

  7. Lucky Chester,
I have noticed that my cats particularly like crocheted blankets to sleep upon. The blankets are getting pretty raggedy now. Have a good weekend.

    Greetings,
    Greg and his cats
