I Am A Year Older

DSC_0232

Hello everyone!  I’ve been doing a little experiment, if you can even call it that.  I’ve tried not posting anything for nearly a week to see if anyone misses me.  Seems like you all still stop by to say hello and I just want you to know how much I appreciate your continued support 🙂

In other news, Monday was my birthday.  Good ol’ March 11th.  Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always felt that my birthday was a random date.  I always just thought the numbers 3-11 look so odd together.  I know every birthday is random, but I’ve always felt this about mine especially.  Also, March eleventh sounds weird.  OCD I guess.

K surprised me when I came home with the cake pictured above.  It’s tiramisu, my favorite.  He also made steak that night too.  He’s not much for surprises, but it means so much to me when he does something to surprise me.

I turned 24 this year.  As cliche as it sounds, I can honestly remember being ten years younger.  I remember exactly what my life was like during that time.  Time has gone so fast and I feel like as I get older it just goes faster and faster.  I have an old soul and I’ve always felt that I have.  I’m pretty sure I was a lazy house cat in a past life or at least a wise Egyptian cat, too proud to do anything silly.  Having an old soul and being a homebody (hate that word, but no other way to describe it really) takes its toll.  At 24, I feel like a weathered old hag.  The smile lines (as my mother calls them) starting to form around my face make me sad every time I look in the mirror.  I’ve given to smiling smaller and less often.  Plus, meds make me super lazy, so I feel like my body is just a mushy pile of chubbiness and I really have no motivation to work out.  I’m skinny-fat.

I love how in all my childhood birthday party pictures that when I’m blowing out the candles on a cake, seemingly always in the same place in my dad’s kitchen, my cousin is just at the corner of the frame balling her eyes out in jealousy.

Birthdays certainly aren’t as fun as they used to be.

My mom still tries to make birthdays special.  I went to my hometown of Huntingburg to see her.  I’m not sure if I’ve ever told you all, but Huntingburg, IN is kind of famous 🙂  Parts of A League of Their Own and Hard Rain were filmed there.  Admittedly, Hardy Rain, is a terrible movie, but you should watch it just to see my hometown a bit 🙂  Here’s a picture of the downtown:

Anyway! Huntingburg is known for it’s antique stores and picturesque downtown.  You can find so much unique stuff there.  A couple of months ago, I saw these two solid brass Mod cats at the downtown emporium and just had to have them.  I didn’t get them at the time, but we went back on Saturday and my mom bought them for me.

I also found this salt and pepper shaker set 🙂  They’re cats of course.  I love my unique finds!  Thanks mom 🙂

Tomorrow, we are going on a double date of sorts to an Amish buffet an hour south of here.  I’ll certainly take pictures if I don’t explode before I can get my camera out.  I usually overindulge there.

One more thing.  This picture of Chester is funny because he always sits in that same spot so that he can watch me when I’m in different places in the house.  If you’ll notice on the edge of the wall, there’s a dark mark.  Chester is always rubbing his face/scent on this exact spot.  It’s too funny 🙂  Does your cat do this?  He’s so cute. I can here him cleaning his fur in the nest I made him.

Well, that’s enough for today.  Good to see you again 🙂

  1. Happy Belated Birthday. Now I know why we get along, you’re a Pisces. These things are important to me. LOL.

Chester rubs the paint off too. Cats are obsessed with corners.

      1. I’m a Scorpio, so I get along best with other Water Signs. Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio are the only Water Signs in the Zodiac. I’ve studied astrology damn near my entire life, so there’s not a lot I don’t know, but I work best with my own group of signs. I can generally tell what a person’s sign is the second I look at them, or the second I’m around them for more than five minutes. It’s a very odd ability, but I tend to hone in on my own kind. LOL.

I can send you some info on your sign and you can tell me if it’s fitting to you. You can also look up your Rising Sign, which will explain even more. I’m about 90% my sign, but the other percentage is definitely my Rising Sign, for sure. For me, looking at my birth chart is always a reminder of what makes me unique. Unless someone is born in the exact same city as you, at the exact same time, it’s virtually impossible for anyone’s chart to match, unless they’re twins, and even some of those alignments can be off based on time.

      2. I have always found astrology to be interesting, but I honestly know very little about my zodiac sign. I’ve never heard of a Rising Sign. I would love to read more about it if you could send me something. And what’s a birth chart? That too sounds very interesting.

      3. I highly recommend this book: http://www.amazon.com/Sydney-Omarrs-Day–Astrological-Guide-ebook/dp/B00A6WV53I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1395439204&sr=8-2&keywords=sydney+omar+2014

to help you learn the basics. Some of it will fit you, and some of it will not. You’ll be able to learn your Rising Sign through that, but I can also do a birth chart for you if you know your exact time of birth, where you were born, etc. You can e-mail me that info and I will e-mail the chart right back to you.

      4. Thank you so much for the book link! I might just have to get it. I think it would be something interesting to read up on. I’ll have to find my exact time of birth. I would love to see the birth chart.

  2. I knew that something wasn’t quite right in my week..and it was you..you were mia! Happy Belated you very young lady! You will feel like a very very old cat when you get to be my age. Lol! So nice of K to surprise you like that. Continue enjoying your Birthday!

  3. A very Happy Birthday to you, Megan. I am sure you would make a very fine Egyptian cat. Chester would too. Your birthday cats are ever so cute. And what a lovely surprise; a tiramisu cake.

  4. Wait Monday was. BOOHOO and you decided we wasn’t invited 😦 So so all the cake is gone.

No of course happy belated Birthday Super Megan. and You are missed. but Almost missed this post since it came in my reader as a day old.

    3 smackeroos for you. kisses.
Keep smiling Megan. And do not ever do an experiment like that again 😛 hope you had fun.
snif even without us. snif snif

  5. Happy Number 24! Megan, you are still young, young, young even though you feel old. I know that, coming from the age of 32. You will change so much over the next ten years, you will barely recognize yourself. Usually in good ways. We get much wiser with each passing year and, also, more accepting of who we are. As for your “smile lines,” now is a good time to start using face lotion and exfoliating regularly, if you haven’t already. Don’t smile less because you don’t want the lines. Smile more because they are just a passing of time. Best always, Rose

    1. Thank you so much 🙂 I moisturize morning and night and used to be very obsessed with anti-aging products. I’m so glad I got off that kick because it can get expensive. Thank you for your kind words 🙂

      1. Anti-aging products really are ridiculous. All you need is a good moisturizer (doesn’t matter what kind) and an exfoliant, and you’re good to go! Thanks for following my blog here a little ways back, by the way! I always enjoy yours! 😀

  6. amish buffet!? interesting! you must blog about that! hahaha i have been thinking of you 🙂 i am very curious about the natural products you use. i will go back through your posts to find that one you did recently about the products you use. what was the title of that one again? i am looking specifically for body lotions. i live in Canada so i’ll what you use and see if i purchase it here too.

    1. I definitely will 🙂 We have a small Amish population near where I grew up and the food is comfort food for me. Just like my grandma used to make 🙂 Here’s the link to the post you were wondering about: https://meganhasocd.com/2014/03/02/my-healthy-obsession-and-chester-in-a-box/

I prefer Burt’s Bees lotions. Also, I have purchased from this etsy seller https://www.etsy.com/shop/LaDolceVitaBathNBody on a couple of occasions and I’ve always been extremely happy with her products. Most of them are natural or organic and they smell good enough to eat 🙂

  7. Happy belated birthday! Chester is always adorable, I love the new salt and pepper set, reminds me of Holland, also the cake your husband bought you looks scrumptious. Take care and hope this year brings you more happiness, good health and safe journeys. Smiles, Robin

    1. Thank you so much Robin 🙂 I’m not sure where the salt and pepper shakers came from, but I got them in a booth that sells all international things and the thought crossed my mind that they could be from Holland. 🙂

  8. Well, Happy Birthday…a few days later. I can remember 24 like it was yesterday. Pre-boyfriend, pre-marriage, pre-kids—just me and my cats. Love the cats, and Chester, and yes, my cats do the same thing. It’s hard to use my laptop sometimes because one of them will be rubbing the corner.

  9. Funny enough … what I noticed was your cat’s marking on the corner of the wall. My female cat does that. Every now and then, I scrub it off … and she places her markings back. Leaves that nice little smudge 🙂

  10. We share the same birthday! I always thought that 311 had a nice feel to it. I’m always amazed at how many local events seem to land on that date…there always seems to be sale starting or ending on the 11th, or something going on in the city on that date:-) I’m glad you had a great “Tuesday”!!!!

      1. Nice to meet you too! It was a lovely Birthday. I celebrated a few days early since that was the easiest days to get together with my daughters and their boyfriends. Earlier in the day C and I took a walk along one of our favorite beaches…we were treated by a visit from a snowy owl which was rather amazing (I think Chester would have liked a visit like that…but for a different reason!)…anyway…I hope you were able to keep the celebration going for the rest of the week!

      2. Lucky! There’re no beaches near us, except the nasty lake beaches and those don’t count in my opinion. A snowy owl, aw!! That would’ve made my birthday great in itself. Sounds like you had a very lovely time.

  11. Ooh, I’ll be 24 in July. Not looking forward to my birthday next year because I know my brother will be constantly reminding my I’m quarter of a century old because I’m always calling him he’s 40 when he’s actually 38. Hmm, what’s comes around and all that, I suppose.

Anywho, happy birthday. That cake looks delicious…
