It’s The Little Things

There’s that saying that money doesn’t buy happiness, but I don’t think that’s always the case. In some cases, money can certainly buy happiness.  I’ve been really down lately and I think most of it is because of the cold weather, lack of sun, and general ugliness of Indiana this time of year.  One of my favorite things to buy to treat myself are beauty products. By “beauty products” I mean anything related to makeup and skincare.

Last weekend, I went to a mall with my mom and they had a Sephora, which we don’t have where I live now.  I was very happy to be able to go there and for someone like me, Sephora is just the best. I got a few things.

I am really into eye shadow and was wanting a palette, but was having trouble deciding on one because they can be so expensive. However, I was excited to find Sephora’s All Access Glam Palette and it is beautiful. The colors are nicely pigmented, even more so if you use an eyelid primer. I bought the Sephora Precision Eye Shadow Brush as well and it’s such a great little brush for putting on this shadow!  Everyone who likes to put on makeup, needs a good set of brushes. I can get to my makeup brushes on another day. I’ve got QUITE a few 🙂 Here’s what the palette looks like on the outside:

And here’s what it looks like on the inside:

DSC_0207The four colors in the middle are actually blush and a highlighter, but I would use them as eyeshadow too. It was a great deal for $15.

Sephora was clearing out their limited edition Hello Kitty products and my momma bought this awesome makeup bag for me, which was half off:

DSC_0210I was lucky to find one of my favorite Korean brands at Sephora as well! They currently sell the Tony Moly Bbo Bbo (kiss kiss) lip balm and I bought the one in blueberry. It’s a great, soothing lip balm with a lovely scent. DSC_0208

The cute little panda pouch next to the lip balm in the picture is also by Tony Moly! I bought this from my absolute favorite place to buy Korean beauty products:

Here’s the Tony Moly Panda’s Dream Eye Patch sheet mask that I bought from Jolse. It’s supposed to help with dark circles, which I’ve always had a problem with. They are actually what you call “allergy shiners” and are caused by allergies (in case you couldn’t guess), so there’s probably no getting rid of them, but I thought it was worth a try. They are called Panda’s Dream Eye Patches because they are dark circle sheets that you put just on your eyes and when you wear them, well, you look like a panda!

The final thing I want to share with you is yet another item from Tony Moly called Tomatox.  I also bought this from Jolse 🙂 I am going to be honest; I bought this for the packaging.

When the container is empty, you can reuse it for storing small things. They don’t put a huge label on it for that reason.

Tomatox is a face mask that you apply for 10-15 minutes once or twice a week. It’s supposed to brighten your complexion and it is supposed to have a slight whitening effect, but I can’t tell because I’m already too white. It smells really nice and I like the texture. Here’s what it looks like inside:

I found that the only effect for me was that it made my face very soft and supple. It’s a fun way to pamper yourself once a week or so.

I don’t know about you, but a little money has bought me quite a bit of happiness and has given me a way to treat myself.  No, money can’t buy happiness directly, but I think this is a good substitute. “Spa” days at home bring me some joy in the gloom 🙂

What small things make you happy? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I wish beauty product could help me. I have been old fat and ugly for ages. I just wrote a blog about the sadness of winter. I am looking forward to the 22 of Dec. when the days start getting longer. I am using a Therapy light and it is helping me. I have had it for years but have not used if for years. I also just joined a gym and feel better after water walking and stretching in the water. Merry Christmas or merry winter. Hugs

  2. I love Sephora! although I’ve only shopped with them online. They don’t have a shop near us. It’s fun to make purchases like that, they can be a nice boost. I like the “spa” things too like body butter, shea body cream, and a lot of the Burt’s Bees products. 🙂

  3. With the whitening effect of Tomatox I’m afraid I’d vanish right into our walls. My husband would never find me. Ha! You’re right that sometimes money does buy happiness, even if only for a time. I’m glad that you got some items that brought a smile to your face.

  4. I missed you Super Megan. and it is nice to see a smile on your face again to. Yes I know I bolted hahaha but still missed you.
Keep strong, and hold that chin up with a smile. Every day is an opportunity to do something awesome and so not like you. Can you hear me cheer you on or should I shout louder 😛

Be great Megan for you are.

  5. Ran across Otis’s hat yesterday. Shame he isn’t going to be using it this year. Miss him terribly. I thought of you immediately when I saw it.
Wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas and wishes for a most promising New Year. Take care.

  6. I have a small addiction to shoes and handbags as well as lipstick. They make me feel so happy! I hope you will feel better soon. 🙂 These are such brilliant purchases!

  7. I totally agree with you that money can buy happiness, in some situations. And I also like to treat myself with makeup lol. Love your post! 🙂

  8. This was a fun post, perfect to help me think about what little details I can do for my children and grandchildren so their holidays are merry and bright! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas season with your husband, family and cat. I have been re-miss in my reading your posts. I still follow you but don’t see your posts often in my Reader… excuses, excuses! Smiles, Robin

  9. I love the Hello Kitty bag! At this stage in my life, looking at all the little things that bring me joy is so important. If I were younger, I would be out there getting myself little treats–usually small things like ring holders or little bowls for trinkets or small shells. Also odd pieces of pottery that catch my eye. One of my favorite finds (in an antique mall–which I still love to visit) was a small child’s mug just like the one I had when I was a little girl. It’s in my cupboard and I love using it.
Hoping you have a wonderful holiday season!

  10. I haven’t been on WordPress too much since doTERRA irritated me about my blog, and I forgot how entertaining your posts are…hopefully I will remember to read them more often.
