Working out is always funner with a cat.
For the past couple of years, I have been laaaaazy. I mean, I come home and sit on the couch all night kind of lazy. In college, I would walk at least 2 miles a day, so at least I was getting some form of exercise. I very occasionally go to the gym with K, but I don’t have a membership and $6 a time adds up. He goes to the campus gym, which is included in tuition, but non-students have to pay a crap load to join, like $600.00 a year. Needless to say, I am not a member. Also, I don’t want to go to another gym by myself, mostly because of anxiety about crowds and germs, but I also wouldn’t have the motivation to get up and go by myself. I know I just wouldn’t.
I attribute my extreme laziness to sertraline (aka Zoloft), which I began taking to help control some aspects of OCD. I’m on a pretty high dose of 100 mg and my doctor warned me that this could be a side-effect. In the beginning, I just came home and had to lay down and/or take a nap. I was SO tired. Now, nearly three years later, I don’t feel like I have an excuse anymore. I don’t want to have congestive heart failure one day like my grandmother. She was always in pain. All of my grandparents have had heart problems and surgeries. That freaks me out. I need to do something now while I am still young and still can.
I remembered really loving Pilates back in high school. It was the only type of exercise I could really get into, so I did a bit of Googling and found Blogilates. You may or may not have heard of this site/YouTube channel before. If you have great, if not, let me tell you what it is. It’s a site and YouTube channel run by a young woman named Cassey Ho. Let me tell you, she is so wonderful and inspiring! Her energy is contagious and you can’t help but smile when she talks. She just makes it a lot easier to work out. She has calendars for beginners to follow. Each calendar has a set of exercises and corresponding YouTube videos. It’s totally free too, which I love 🙂
I started her Beginner Calendar 2.0 for 2015, which you can find here. I love that she doesn’t try to murder you with ridiculous moves the very first video or even throughout the entire first week. It helps to ease into working out and to learn the basics of Pilates. I could absolutely get into this! I am already finished with week 1 (I started midweek last week) and will begin week 2 today. Her videos are easy to follow along to and I just connect my phone to ChromeCast, so I can watch it on my TV. Not only does she provide Pilates workout videos, but her site also has tons of fun, healthy recipes. I tried her 2 ingredient pancake recipe and they were awesome and so easy!
I’m not making a resolution for the New Year because I NEVER keep my resolutions. I don’t want to set myself up to fail, so I just take each day as it comes. I will take this a day at a time and so far, I’m really enjoying myself and loving the new found strength I have in my body.
Have you heard of Blogilates? Have you been a Popster (someone who does Blogilates)? If so, I’d love to hear your experiences and thoughts.
I’d also love for you all to join me on this journey! I think having workout buddies, even in the blogosphere, is helpful for motivation.
